All Saints Primary School, Albany Creek opened its doors after sunset for STEM Under the Stars this National Science Week (9–17 August).

Through a mix of hands-on activities and real-world demonstrations, students explored science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in a way that’s only possible after dark.

From gazing at the night sky through telescopes to exploring a Hologram Zoo that projects life-sized 3D images of animals, students discovered astronomy, biology, and technology in ways that simply aren’t possible during daylight hours.

All Saints Primary School Principal Roycelyn Wilden said STEM Under the Stars was designed to inspire curiosity and show students that learning doesn’t stop when the school day ends.

“By combining night-time astronomy, technology exploration, and hands-on challenges, All Saints is helping students see the relevance of STEM in everyday life, and in the world beyond the classroom,” she said.

All Saints Primary School STEM specialist teacher Sarah Campbell said, “STEM isn’t just something you learn between 8 am and 3 pm, it’s all around us, all the time.”

“Astronomy, light-based technology, and even certain engineering concepts really shine after dark, allowing our students to not only expand their knowledge in STEM but also their curiosity,” she said.

“We want our students to see that STEM is not just a subject at school, it’s a way of looking at the world, morning, afternoon, and night.”

As part of All Saints Primary School’s STEM Under the Stars event, students also showcased their own STEM creations, including robots they designed and programmed, giving families and visitors a glimpse into the innovative projects happening at school.
