It’s a celebratory day for Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) and Our Lady’s College, Annerley school community, with Campus Minister Kay Holmes winning the Spirit of Catholic Education Award 2022, an award which celebrates the outstanding contributions of passionate educators within Catholic Education in Queensland.
This year more than 160 nominations were received from Catholic school communities across the State, highlighting the important work being undertaken by staff, parents, carers, and volunteers who support Catholic school students.
Kay said she’s honoured to win the award.
“I’ve always tried to live by the advice of Saint Mary Mackillop - “never see a need without doing something about it,” she said.
”To be singled out is very humbling. I feel unworthy in ways, as I see so much good going on, and I know it’s not just me, it takes a village, we all work together to create the spirit at the College.
“I became a Campus Minister because I felt called to connect with students, be part of their story, and give them the opportunity to help others through outreach programs.”
Our Lady’s College Principal Andree Rice said, “Kay is someone who wholeheartedly lives out the mission of our founders, the Josephite Sisters, and exemplifies the Josephite charism, qualities of compassion, intentional inclusion, and mutual respect, which is reflected in the ways she works.”
“I’m especially proud of Kay who with the support of other staff provided a home, essentials and encouragement to a young woman who came to us a refugee student and has grown under her support.
“Our College is so blessed to have Kay who has created a web of support which runs through our school community, like Saint Mary Mackillop, she is the nuts and bolts of our College.”
