BCE kick starts Advent with annual Blessing of the Babies

29/11/2022

Four babies and one expectant family have been blessed today (23 November) as part of the annual Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) Baby Blessing liturgy.

The blessing is held each year on the eve of Advent and in celebration of World Universal Children’s Day on 20 November.

BCE Spiritual Direction and Mission Lead Catherine Foley said the blessing is a BCE tradition.

“Each year we gather together as an organisation to bless all the new babies born into our BCE community, as well as those parents in our community who also wait for the birth of a child,” she said.

“The Baby Blessing is a celebration of parenthood, and it’s an opportunity for us to all welcome this new baby into our broader BCE community.

“Advent is such a special time of year as we remember the birth of Jesus, which is why this day is special to the BCE community as we welcome these new lives which bring us so much love, joy, and hope for the future; and pray for those who hope to welcome a baby in the future.

“Today we also remembered those families who have suffered the loss of a baby and we continue to hold them in our thoughts and prayers.”

As part of the liturgy, parents were asked to come forward and share their hopes for their new baby’s future.
