BCE schools to score goals at state’s largest schools netball carnival

Brisbane Catholic Education schools from Hervey Bay to Kingaroy, Brisbane and the Gold Coast are today completing one of the nation’s largest schools netball carnivals. 

 

The Queensland Independent Secondary Schools Carnival has attracted 82 teams to the State Netball Centre at Nathan and BCE schools are represented across the 10 girls and boys’ divisions. 

 

A total of 21 girls’ teams and six boys’ from BCE schools are spread across the divisions in a tournament that have run across the week, from Monday 26 June, and ending with finals on Friday 30 June. 

 

Six BCE schools have entered the girls’ and boys’ draws: Xavier Catholic College, Hervey Bay; Southern Cross Catholic College, Scarborough; Saint Mary's Catholic College, Kingaroy; Carmel College, Thornlands; Marymount College, Burleigh Waters; Mt Maria College, Mitchelton; and St Thomas More College, Sunnybank. 

 

Unity College Principal Dan McShea said his students were excited to compete in a carnival that continued to grow. 

 

“It’s an event that our students look forward to and it gets larger every year to be one of the largest independent secondary school netball Carnivals in Australia,” Mr McShea said. 

 

“The students make memories that they take with them long after they have finished school and this year they’re playing in the best netball venue in the state.” 

 

BCE schools have a rich history in the QISSN carnival including last year’s player of the girls’ carnival Baylee Boyd from Siena Catholic College, Sippy Downs. 

 

Six BCE school students were named in the 2022 Rising Stars team.
