Clairvaux MacKillop College students gearing up for the Battle of the ROCK Bands!

BCE schools are leading the lineup of schools competing in the 2023 Battle of the ROCK Bands – boasting 10 of the 32 bands performing over three nights from 5 to 7 October.

Hosted and run by Clairvaux MacKillop College, organisers say the event will be bigger and better than ever this year.

After rocking out throughout the school holidays, schools from across South East Queensland and their immensely talented students will perform at the Upper Mt Gravatt College for a spectacular showcase of musical prowess.

Hitting the music festival stage with their electrifying original compositions and mind-blowing covers, this year performers will compete in an explosive showcase of musical creativity and talent and compete for the titles of Most Outstanding Musicians and Most Outstanding Band performances.

Clairvaux MacKillop College Principal Wayne Chapman expressed his excitement at witnessing the transformation of the Battle of the ROCK Bands in 2023.

"This year, we've experienced a significant surge of interest," he said.

"Our participating schools represent a wide array of neighbouring regions, including Coomera, Wynnum, Caboolture, Riverview, as well as Coorparoo, Mt Gravatt, and Logan.

“This festival truly highlights the rich diversity of talent and the sense of camaraderie among schools throughout South East Queensland.

“We've even received expressions of interest from as far as Toowoomba, indicating their eagerness to be part of the festival in 2024."

Wayne said all students involved, not just the performers, benefit from the experience of being part of Battle of the ROCK Bands.

“The festival also allows our students to gain real-world experience working in live music production,” he said.

“From sound engineering and pyrotechnics, students have the chance to develop valuable technical skills.

“As part of the experience, they learn how to operate complex audiovisual equipment, creating an immersive and memorable experience for both the performers and the audience.

“These technical skills are not only relevant to the world of music but also transferable to various other fields.”
