Marymount College Prayer Coordinator presented Spirit of Catholic Education Award at Catholic Education Week 2023 launch

Marymount College Burleigh Waters Prayer Coordinator Mary Dolores Maitland wins Spirit of Catholic Education Award 2023.

A deep faith, leadership, and Mercy ways were among the attributes judges praised when awarding Marymount College Burleigh Waters Prayer Coordinator Mary Dolores Maitland a Spirit of Catholic Education Award 2023 for the Archdiocese of Brisbane.  
 
Mary Dolores was presented her award during the Townsville launch of Catholic Education Week 2023 today (Tuesday 25 July) and was among 240 nominees from Catholic school communities across Queensland 
 
Mary Dolores, who was nominated by her school Principal Martina Millard, said she felt honoured to win. 
 
“I feel very humbled that Martina saw something in me and felt compelled to nominate me for such a prestigious award,” said the former Assistant Principal Religious Education, known in her community as Dolores.  
 
“Receiving this award reminds me of the importance of living out our lives like The Sisters of Mercy, offering comfort and solace to others during challenging times. 
 
"This nomination has touched me deeply and filled my heart with gratitude. 
 
Martina said Dolores stood out for her exceptional contributions to Catholic education, including 47 years of service to Catholic schools in both Queensland and New South Wales. 
 
“In the vibrant world of Catholic Education, Dolores is a beacon of unwavering faith and commitment, illuminating the path for others,” said the Principal 

“Even when faced with adversity throughout her life and career, she has shown the schools she serves unwavering loyalty and support, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of those staff and students around her. 

Thank you for the many cups of tea you have made me in Mercy tradition Dolores, and congratulations again. 
Dolores added she was “humbled” by her Principal’s support.  

Martina has given me unwavering support as Principal and I am thankful for her friendship, she said.

The Spirit of Catholic Education Awards are presented annually in conjunction with Catholic Education Week to celebrate outstanding contributions to Catholic education in Queensland. Each year nominations are received from Catholic school communities across the State, highlighting the important work being undertaken by staff, parents, carers, and volunteers who support Catholic school students. Nominees, including teams, are recognised across a number of categories for excellence in their work, leadership, service, initiative and creating positive change for indigenous students.
