St Joseph's School Bardon is shining a light on skin cancer prevention.

Tackling the issue head on with ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) 50+ sun-safe shirts for students during playtime and breaks.

Under the sunny partnership with Big Bright Blue, St Joseph’s School students are radiantly eager to combat skin cancer risks among Queensland's youth population.

St Josephs’ School Acting Principal Michael Stokes said, “amid Queensland's soaring skin cancer rates, it's imperative that our school takes proactive steps to safeguard our students.”

"By promoting sun safety practices, we're not only safeguarding their health but also instilling lifelong habits of protection and self-care,” he said.

Big Bright Blue Co-Founder and St Joseph’s School parent Kirsten Lewis, addresses this need with its innovative sun shirts, crafted from 100% recycled polyester.

“My children enjoy outdoor activities, but applying sunscreen consistently can be challenging,” Kirsten said.

“These sun shirts offer a convenient and effective alternative, ensuring all-day protection."

Made from 100% recycled polyester, each child’s shirt contains an estimate of 3.5 plastic bottles.

Five per cent of the profits from shirts sold will be donated to the Leukaemia Foundation.
