Assisi Catholic College Upper Coomera students have showcased their exceptional talents and academic prowess, taking out three categories at the prestigious Da Vinci Decathlon competition last month.

In a whirlwind of challenges, Assisi Catholic College students conquered tasks which saw them map Italy, engineer a roller coaster, and bring to life a utopian vision through physical movement.

Assisi Catholic College Principal John Frare said the students demonstrated “unparalleled creativity, teamwork, and intellect,” solidifying their reputation as champions in the academic arena.

“We are incredibly proud of our Year 7 students who came out on top in both the creative producers and engineering tasks,” he said.

“To top it all off, our Year 11 students also took out the cartography event.

“Given their study of Italian language and culture, the mapping questions focusing on Italy presented an opportunity for our Year 11 students to leverage their knowledge and skills.

“Assisi Catholic College draws its name from the Italian town of Assisi, adding a layer of significance to their achievements in this event.

“I am incredibly proud to see our students push the limits of their potential, showcasing their brilliance on a national stage.”

John said the success of the Assisi Catholic College teams was a result of student and staff dedication.

“From lunchtime training sessions to extended learning opportunities during class time, students invest countless hours honing their skills and preparing for this competition,” he said.

“In the end, the triumphs at the Da Vinci Decathlon are not just individual victories but collective achievements that reflect the collaborative spirit fostered at our College.”

Assisi Catholic College Year 11 student Charlotte said winning the mapping competition was unexpected due to the challenging nature of the event.

“Mapping Italy was a complex yet rewarding task that allowed us to apply our knowledge in a real-world context,” she said.

“Although we were familiar with the locations, mapping them accurately required skill and on-the-spot adjustments.

“I believe it was our ability to learn a new skill that won us first place.”
