Safeguarding standard 9 - Continuous Improvement

At Brisbane Catholic Education one of our highest priorities is the safety of our students. As we embed the 10 National Catholic Safeguarding standards in all we do at BCE we are highlighting a safeguarding standard each month and spotlighting how this contributes to a safe environment for our students and personnel.

This month we highlight Standard 9 - Continuous Improvement. Through continuous improvement we ensure that we never become complacent about child safety. For continuous improvement we implement our learnings from review of our policies and practices, analysing any incidents or complaints and implementing outcomes of reviews and audits. At BCE our continuous improvement is well informed from subject specialist and professionals and the voices of our students, parents and personnel to ensure our students are at the centre of what we do and how we create a safe learning environment.

The new editions to the Catholic National Safeguarding Standards include requiring Catholic entities to deploy strategies that keep both children and adults at risk safe from abuse and exploitation. These standards are aimed at holding Catholic Church to the highest degree of accountability, transparency, integrity and professionalism as we carry out our mission and service delivery. It is this accountability that addresses the failures uncovered through the Royal Commission.

In February we promoted Standard 10: how policies and procedures keep our students and adults at risk safe. Read more about this standard here.
