For Principal Wayne Chapman, the students at Clairvaux MacKillop College are music to his ears.

Since beginning his new role at the Upper Mount Gravatt school in 2023, Wayne said he has been inspired by his student’s musical talents.

Music is an important part of my life, I have a deep passion for contemporary independent music, and I am a regular at music festivals,” he said.

I was extremely excited to become Principal here because every year we host the Battle of The Rock Bands, a spectacular three-day event drawing in 30 other BCE colleges from across South East Queensland.”

Wayne said Clairvaux MacKillop College delivers extensive extracurricular offerings to its students.

In addition to enormous sporting and service programs, our talented students this term produced Charlie in the Chocolate Factory the Musical, rehearsing since last year,” he said.

“It was great to see them showcase their talents to our school and the broader community.

Wayne added being a Principal is a rewarding job, which has seen him help transform the lives of thousands of students across his career and includes five years as the Principal of Mt Maria College Petrie.

Watching the students and staff grow and develop is so rewarding,” he said.

I love seeing the lightbulbs go off and the excitement of learning.

“There are great traditions at our College which I look forward to continuing, as well as many opportunities for the students to grow and achieve both academically and through acts of faith.

Wayne said he has a diverse teaching background and initially trained as a Physical Education and Film and Television teacher.

“My experiences in the classroom have shaped who I am as a Principal and provide me with a better understanding of my students and staff needs,” he added.

As a leader, I am considered and supportive and I know the students would say I am approachable, fair and a level-headed leader.

I am looking forward to a long and committed leadership presence at Clairvaux MacKillop College.”
