As students head back to school, Head of Campus Megan Pidskalny is at the forefront of FisherONE’s mission to deliver high-quality and technology-enhanced education.
From fostering teacher collaboration through Professional Learning Communities, to integrating cutting-edge tools like Microsoft Teams, Megan is transforming classrooms into dynamic, interactive spaces.
In this Q&A, Megan opens up about her journey in education, the importance of leveraging technology in hybrid learning, and how FisherONE is creating a workplace where educators thrive.
Q: What drives your passion for education and your dedication to FisherONE’s mission?
A:
My passion for education is driven by a desire to connect, empower, and transform students to be future-ready, and grounded in a 21st-century Mercy charism.
At FisherONE, I’m inspired by the opportunity to guide both students and staff toward holistic growth while fostering a faith-centered, innovative learning environment.
Q: What inspired you to take on such a dynamic role in hybrid learning at FisherONE?
A:
FisherONE’s mission to deliver innovative, high-quality education across Queensland deeply resonated with my belief in leveraging technology to enhance learning. The chance to be part of a pioneering team, shaping the future of hybrid learning, and supporting both educators and students inspired me to embrace this dynamic role.
Q: Can you share how establishing Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) has impacted teacher collaboration and student outcomes? PLCs are groups of educators that meet regularly, share expertise, and work collaboratively to improve teaching skills and the academic performance of students.
A:
PLCs have been transformative in fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement. By sharing best practices and providing constructive feedback, teachers feel empowered to innovate and refine their pedagogical (best learning and teaching) approaches. This has directly enhanced teaching quality and, subsequently, student outcomes by creating a more cohesive and supportive learning environment.
Q: What excites you most about supporting and encouraging educators to explore new technologies in their teaching practices?
A:
Encouraging educators to explore new technologies excites me because it unlocks innovative ways to engage students and enrich their learning experiences. At FisherONE, the integration of advanced tools like Microsoft Teams has allowed us to create more interactive, inclusive, and impactful teaching methods.
Q: How does FisherONE support educators in achieving their professional goals while enhancing student learning?
A:
FisherONE provides ongoing professional learning opportunities, mentorship, and a supportive community that fosters growth. By encouraging reflective practices and equipping educators with innovative tools, FisherONE ensures teachers can reach their potential while delivering exceptional learning outcomes for students.
Q: As a Modern History teacher, how do you bring historical content to life for online learners?
A:
I engage online learners by connecting historical content to contemporary issues, using technology to create interactive and immersive experiences. Strategies such as virtual debates, digital archives, and collaborative projects allow students to critically analyse and relate to history in meaningful ways.
Q: Why would you recommend FisherONE as a workplace for other educators?
A:
FisherONE offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of online education, supported by a collaborative and faith-centered culture.
Educators are empowered with professional development, cutting-edge resources, and a strong sense of purpose, all within an environment that values innovation, connection, and excellence.
