WITH the Tokyo Olympics only months away, students at All Saints’ Primary School, Boonah, unleashed their ‘Olympic spirit’ to welcome swimmer David McKeon as part of the Olympics Unleashed program.

The free initiative takes Olympians and athletes aspiring for Tokyo 2020 to schools across the country.

David explained how he first decided to enter the world of competitive swimming after witnessing the success of his younger sister, Emma.

Through the interactive and engaging presentation the athlete also shared experiences from his own Olympic journey that every student could learn from, including how they set goals, overcame challenges and demonstrated perseverance to unleash their potential.

His aim was to inspire and motivate the Years 4 - 6 students to unleash their passion in sport, the classroom, the playground or at home.

Year 6 student, Thomas O'Neill, said he was impressed with David's dedication to his chosen sport.

"I enjoyed hearing about his life story and how committed he is to early morning training - even in a cold pool," he said.

Fellow student Matilda Ehrich said his presentation was inspiring.

"He showed a lot of courage!" Matilda said.

Meanwhile student Bridget Muller talked about how she admired that the swimmer always kept trying.

“He was very persistent to face all the challenges so that he could achieve his goal," Bridget said.
