After a devastating rain event in 2024 which destroyed their entire collection of books, All Saints’ School Boonah has risen stronger, transformed, and more innovative, right in time for the new school year.

With the library extension now complete, the school has welcomed 130 students back into a space designed for growth, creativity, and a love of reading during this Queensland School Library Week (QSLW) (10 to 14 February).

All Saint’s School Principal Robert Campbell said “the rain event was a devastating setback for our school, completely wiping out our library’s collection of books.

“However, the renewed collection now offers students and teachers access to the latest and most engaging resources— including 100 new iPads and 3000 new books,” he said.

“The newly extended library has also been a game-changer for our school.

“The extension has transformed the library into a bright, circular space that encourages both exploration and connection among our students.

“The completed upgrade includes new flexible workspaces, a cozy reading corner, breakout and digital learning areas, as well as a wide range of new books and cutting-edge technology.

“Flooded with natural light from the library’s new dome skylights, it provides a welcoming atmosphere for learning and collaboration.

“Our students have all the best resources and books at their fingertips.”

Innovative learning spaces

Robert adds “the library’s transformation extends beyond books”.

“As part of the expansion, dedicated digital space has been introduced, including a green-screen area where students can film assignments and participate in creative projects,” he said.

“The library also hosts a popular Minecraft club during lunchtime, alongside quiet areas for relaxation.

“It’s a space that combines tradition with technology, catering to the diverse learning needs of our students.”

Enhancing learning

“The extended library wouldn’t be complete without the dedication of our staff,” Robert said.

“A new Teacher Librarian has joined the team in 2025, bringing fresh energy and ideas to this new space.

“Our Library Aide, who has been part of the journey from the beginning, continues to ensure the space runs smoothly, providing invaluable support to students and staff alike.

“I welcome all prospective parents who want their children to learn in state-of-the-art spaces that inspire creativity and a love of reading and learning.”

Broader expansion

The library transformation is part of a $3.5 million upgrade to All Saints’ School Boonah, funded through the Australian Government’s Capital Grants Program (CGP) for non-government schools.

In addition to the library, the Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) school’s upgrade also includes a newly completed administration building, classrooms (including a Prep room and multipurpose room), general learning areas, a new learning support space, a uniform store, technology and sports storage, a person with disability amenity, and staff facilities.
