St John Fisher College, Bracken Ridge’s class of 2024 has certainly raised the bar, achieving A-plus results with 15 individual subject scores soaring above 98 per cent.
The graduates are now in the spotlight, proudly showcased as part of Brisbane Catholic Education’s (BCE) inaugural Student Excellence Awards.
The awards honour graduates who excelled in their Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority subjects across BCE’s 36 secondary and Prep to Year 12 schools.
Building on the College’s success, 10 per cent of graduates also achieved an ATAR above 98 per cent, while 28 per cent achieved an ATAR of 90 or above.
St John Fisher College Principal Britt Gurnett said she was proud to see her graduates recognised among the highest achievers across BCE’s schools.
“It speaks volumes about the culture of learning and excellence we foster at St John Fisher College,” she said.
“Our students’ success is our success, and we couldn’t be prouder.”
Personalised pathways
Britt said St John Fisher College's focus is on empowering students to reach their full potential, whether through ATAR pathways, vocational education, or real-world learning experiences.
“This approach has been key to our ongoing success,” she said.
"We work really hard in Year 10 to prepare students for senior schooling, to know them, to expose them to the many pathways post-schooling, so they make good choices on subjects and certificates as they commence Year 11.
"We talk to our students about what is going to get them where they want to go, leading them on a pathway best suited to their gifts and talents.”
Beyond the classroom
Beyond the traditional curriculum, Britt said students were encouraged to explore opportunities outside the classroom.
“This approach provides invaluable insights and prepares students for diverse career paths,” she said.
“We also focus on growth industries, promote scholarships, and highlight courses with government funding.
“Our students are also given opportunities to gain hands-on experience through school-based traineeships, TAFE, FisherONE Online Education, excursions, and online certificates.
“Programs like Headstart and the Australian Qualifications Framework also provide our students an early advantage in their future careers, solidifying positive outcomes for our graduates.”
