As
a teacher working in a uniquely virtual learning environment, Lisa Newland is constantly looking for new ways to use technology to engage her students.
“FisherONE is a completely online learning offering that allows our students to take specialised subjects not offered at their base school,” Lisa said.
“It is a unique classroom that compels us as educators to think of innovative ways to engage learners and help them connect to each other and the syllabus.”
Technology is revolutionising education across Brisbane Catholic Education and the world, and Lisa is passionate about integrating technology into her teaching – a topic she’ll share her knowledge on at the upcoming EduMeet Microsoft Showcase.
“We have powerful learning tools at our fingertips. From embedding quizzes into Powerpoint and Stream presentations for real-time learning check-ins to an AI-generated escape room for our Applied ICT students, the application of these tools is endless,” Lisa said.
Lisa’s commitment to educational innovation and excellence is demonstrated through her recent application to become a Microsoft Innovative Educator: Experts (MIEE).
“Being an MIEE provides me with ongoing professional development that I can integrate into our practice,” she said.
“I’ll have access to resources, tools, and a global community of practice to ensure our students are at the forefront of the latest technology.”
Lisa will join the panel of presenters at the upcoming EduMeet Microsoft Showcase, sharing her insights on the integration of Loop and Whiteboard in Microsoft Teams as tools to engage students.
“In my presentation I will unpack the strengths of using Loop and Whiteboard in the classroom and share ways they can be integrated into any classroom – tailored for your students.”
“Our BCE teaching community has a wealth of knowledge to share, and I’m looking forward to learning from each other at EduMeet and taking my new skills into my classroom.”
The Microsoft EduMeet Showcase is being hosted in partnership with FisherOne and BCE on Tuesday, 30 July. This year’s theme is Fostering Student-Centred Learning with Microsoft Technology, and it’s a professional development opportunity not to be missed.
